April is upon us! That means the start of both Parkinson’s Awareness Month and the Team Fox Million Dollar Month challenge. In much of the country it also means warmer temperatures, sunshine and the opportunity to spend as much time as possible outside. As you start to make summer plans, just remember there’s no better time to turn your outdoor hobby into a fundraiser for Parkinson’s research.
This month, register with Team Fox and help us inch closer to that one million dollar goal. Any outdoor activity can be turned into a fundraiser — from extreme to moderate, solo to community-based. If you need a little inspiration, check out a few popular options below to see how our community is helping to make April a million dollar month.
Start Trotting
With a growing number of Fox Trot run/walk events popping up around the country, there could be one happening in your back yard! Join the Team Fox Adirondacks Fox Trot 5K & 10K on April 29 in upstate New York, or catch the Soul to Sole 5K near St. Louis, MO on April 30. Can’t find one nearby? Not a problem! You can always choose any race in your community and fundraise for Team Fox, or select from our list of our athletic events and go the extra mile – literally!
Hop on your Bike
There are plenty of ways to get involved with Team Fox through cycling this year – so grab a helmet and hop on your bike! The Tour de Fox Cycling Series is back after a successful first year, and with a brand new event for 2017! Along with hitting Tour stops in Vancouver, Cleveland and Sonoma County, the Tour will be heading south, stopping in Greenville, SC on September 23.
Along with Tour events, plan to ride with our friends in Denver, CO for Pedaling 4 Parkinson’s on June 24 or be a part of the largest independent Team Fox event by joining the tenth annual New England Parkinson’s Ride in Old Orchard Beach, Maine on September 9. All events host rides of different distances and difficulty – so there’s something for everyone!
Like to go it alone? Both Matt Barbaccia and James Black are doing solo coast to coast rides this year to fundraise for Team Fox. Matt is heading west and plans to hit California later this month, while James will be going in the opposite direction – riding east after starting in Washington this June.
Hit the Water
Nothing says summer like being on the water. Though water sports can admittedly bring a more challenging logistical element to a fundraising event, it doesn’t mean there aren’t some great ideas out there. New Team Fox member Denis Carmody is kayaking from New York to Maryland – a total of 444 miles – in support of his friend Dan who is living with Parkinson’s.
You can also make a splash by participating in a triathlon – swim, bike and run your way closer to a cure for Parkinson’s! Experience the mighty Hudson as part of our NYC Triathlon team on July 16 or find a race that fits your schedule. Team Fox members Kristin Scott and Matt Britton are going all in by participating in IRONMAN races – that’s a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run (all in the same day)!
No matter what activities you enjoy, make the most of your outdoor hobbies and sign up today with Team Fox!
